About the department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at R.M.K . Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is one of the foremost divisions of the college. The department is known for its extensive and fruitful interaction with the industries and other R&D organizations. The department has upgraded its facilities and conducts research through sponsorship from AICTE and DST to the tune of Rupees 44 lakhs. Advanced CNC machines and latest Product Life Cycle Management related software also find a prime place in the department. Students are exposed to such infrastructure through research projects by part being part of a team led by faculty members who conduct research in that area.
The department has a team of dedicated and well qualified faculty with experience both in academics and industry. Students regularly perform well in the university examinations and bring laurels to the Department by getting ranks including gold medals. Students also gain additional knowledge on current happenings in the industry through professional activities such as invited technical talks by experts from industry and academia, collaborative programs under various professional forums such as Mechanical Engineering association, Product Development and Management Association of India (PDMA), ISHRAE and SAE.
About Impulse
Impulse is the prestigious technical event well known for its unique identity in tapping the potential of students to plan and execute student competitions at our college. Competitions are held inviting student papers in various categories from technical institutes far and wide throughout the country. Apart from the above, various other events such as quiz, robo rally, CADD modeling are the hallmark of the festival which is popular among the students. The event starts with an inauguration by an eminent personality from the industry followed by the key-note address. The events are well-planned and test the ingenuity, intelligence and technical knowledge of the students, the best among them walk out with cash prizes and a certificate of appreciation. Finally, it is a date to reckon and recollect for the participants, organizers and faculty in their memory for years to come.
